Introduction
Welcome to Afrovarsity. Afrovarsity Technologies Limited (“Afrovarsity”, “we”, “us”) builds technology that helps students apply to universities and discover scholarships, and helps institutions manage the students who apply to them. These Terms govern your use of Afrovarsity and our related products, features and services, except where we state that separate terms apply.
We firmly believe you should have full control of your information. We do not share your personal information, your name, email, documents, or anything else you give us, with third parties without your consent. You decide which institution receives your information, and what to make public. We never make that choice for you.
By creating an account or using Afrovarsity, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the platform.
Definitions
A few terms as we use them here:
- Student, any individual who creates an account to use the services we provide.
- Institution (or University), any organisation providing tertiary education (universities, colleges, trade schools) that is listed on Afrovarsity. Institutions must be verified before they can accept applications through the platform.
The services we provide
We aim to simplify the application process for students and to give visibility to talented students who might otherwise go unseen, while helping institutions organise the students who apply to them.
For students
- A profile that works for you, complete your profile once and it fills every application you make. You control what stays private and what, if anything, you make public.
- Apply to institutions, search verified institutions and apply through a single place, then track every application from your dashboard.
- Discover scholarships, find and apply to funding you're eligible for, so opportunities reach the students who need them most.
For institutions
- Reach students, verified institutions are discoverable by our growing community of applicants.
- Organised applications, applications arrive organised, carrying only the information each student chose to submit.
- Research & improvement, we analyse how the platform is used, in aggregate, to develop, test and improve our products.
- Wide access, students across the continent and beyond can apply to listed African institutions. To run a service available in many places, we store and process data on infrastructure that may be located in or outside your country of residence.
Payments & application fees
Some applications carry an application fee set by the institution, plus a small processing charge. The exact amount is always shown to you before you confirm. You can pay using mobile money, Airtel Money and MTN MoMo, or a Visa/Mastercard card.
These payments are processed by the mobile network operators and card providers themselves. Afrovarsity facilitates the transaction but does not control, and is not responsible for, the mobile network operators' or card providers' own terms, fees, availability or processing times, which apply in addition to these Terms.
Application fees are generally non-refundable once an application has been submitted, except where an institution's own policy or applicable law provides otherwise. Every payment you make appears in your Transactions history.
Your data & privacy
To provide our services, we collect and store the information you give us. That includes your profile details, academic records, documents you upload (such as your ID and results slips), and your application data.
- Your information is private by default. An institution only receives the information you explicitly submit to it when you apply.
- We do not share your personal data with third parties without your consent.
- You control visibility, you choose what, if anything, to make public.
- We store and process data on infrastructure that may be located in or outside your country in order to run a continent-wide service.
- You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time.
We keep your data only for as long as needed to provide the service or as required by law.

Additional provisions
Updating these Terms
We may update these Terms as the platform evolves, and only where the change is reasonable and takes due account of your interests. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice (by email or in the product) before material changes take effect, unless the law requires otherwise. Continuing to use Afrovarsity after changes take effect means you accept them. If you don't agree, you can delete your account at any time.
Limits on liability
We work hard to provide the best service we can, but our products are provided “as is”. To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. We don't guarantee the service will always be uninterrupted, secure or error-free.
Disputes & governing law
If you are a consumer, the laws of the country in which you reside apply to any dispute with us, and you may bring your claim in a competent court there. Otherwise, you agree that any claim will be resolved exclusively in the Zambian High Court in Lusaka, and that the laws of Zambia govern these Terms, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
